The Story

NetQuote provides consumers with a free, simple, and effective way to conveniently shop online for insurance by connecting consumers to agents from all the top insurance companies. Agents compete for an insurance shopper’s business and offer competitive quotes so consumers can save money on the protection they need. NetQuote has trusted relationships with thousands of local insurance agents at over 100 of the nation’s top insurance companies.

In 2005, in partnership with Spectrum Equity, Stripes group acquired NetQuote having developed a strong belief in NetQuote’s mission: to provide articles, information, and guidance for consumers on the best ways to save, shop for and choose the right insurance policy, while continuing to offer insurance agents with ever-improving tools and leads to help them drive to success. In conjunction with Spectrum, Stripes helped to recruit additions to the Company’s management team including its Chairman, CEO, CIO and CFO. Stripes also worked with the team to reposition NetQuote as a lead “clearinghouse” and by bolstering NetQuote’s marketing tactics investing in new affiliates and publishers, NetQuote was able to broaden its business model to all types of insurance, beyond its initial domain, auto.

In 2010, Stripes Group realized their investment in NetQuote through a sale to Bankrate, Inc. (NYSE: RATE).
