Background

John is an Operating Advisor with Stripes Group, primarily focused on evaluating and supporting Technology companies.

John R McCarthy is a high technology veteran with over 20 years of senior management experience in category leading organizations including CNT/McData, StorageApps and EMC Corporation.

Most recently John was SVP of NA Sales at CNT where he was hired to reconstruct the sales force and position CNT for M&A activity in a switching industry ripe for consolidation. With in one year of John joining CNT the company was acquired by McData Corporation for $235 million. John was one of only two senior executives offered a position at McData in order to assit in the sales and operations integration process for the new organization. Prior to CNT, McCarthy was instrumental in selling StorageApps, a pioneering storage virtualization company, to Hewlett Packard in a deal valued at $350 million. Originally John was retained as a consultant and was later appointed as President and COO after the company decided to pursue strategic partnering including potential acquirers.

John began his career in 1986 joining, the then unknown memory and storage systems company, EMC Corporation. Through out his 15 years John held numerous sales and senior management positions culminating as SVP of North American sales. As EVP of sales John was responsible for more than 3,200 sales, PS and services employees and $5.6 billion in annual revenues.

John has held several board and advisory-board seats for early stage companies, including Avamar Tech (recently acquired by EMC for $165M), Archivas (acquired by HDS for $115M), and Index Engines.
